Removing Acrylic Nails at Home: Essential Tools and Techniques
Gather Your Supplies
To safely remove acrylic nails, you will need the following tools: * Nail file with two grits (100/80 grit if possible) * Nail buffer * Acetone (not just regular polish remover) * Orangewood stick * Cotton balls * Tin foil
Preparing Your Nails
1. File down the surface of the acrylic nails with the 100-grit side of the nail file to break the seal. 2. Use the 80-grit side of the file to thin down the acrylic layer until it is very thin.
Soaking in Acetone
1. Saturate cotton balls with acetone. 2. Place a cotton ball on each nail and wrap it tightly with tin foil. 3. Wait for 10-15 minutes, allowing the acetone to dissolve the acrylic.
Removing the Acrylic
1. Remove the tin foil and gently scrape off the loosened acrylic with the orangewood stick. 2. Continue soaking and scraping until all the acrylic is removed. 3. File down any remaining residue with the 80-grit file.
Buffing and Polishing
1. Buff the nails with the nail buffer to smooth out any rough edges. 2. Apply nail polish or leave your nails bare.
Tips for Success
* Use pure acetone for best results. * Soak the nails for the recommended time to avoid damaging your natural nails. * Be gentle when scraping off the acrylic to prevent lifting your natural nail bed. * Use a moisturizing cream to hydrate your nails after removal.
